This coffee comes from Cafetalera Herbazu, located in Lourdes de Naranjo, in the West Valley of Costa Rica.

The farm is owned by Antonio Barrantes and sits at around 1,500 metres above sea level, on sandy volcanic soils. The coffee trees grow under the shade of poró and guaba trees, on a 12-hectare farm, including 2 hectares of preserved natural areas.

In 2010, Antonio planted the Kenyan SL28 variety on the farm, registered locally as San Roque. Known for its expressive cup profile, this variety has found a beautiful expression at Herbazu, combining clarity, sweetness, and depth.

No herbicides or insecticides are used on the farm. The work at Herbazu is precise, consistent, and deeply connected to the land.

We met Antonio Barrantes at Cafetalera Herbazu in Costa Rica, where he served us this same coffee. When we later found the lot available through our importer in Europe, we did not hesitate. This is now the second year we have worked with this coffee, and the consistency between harvests has been remarkable.

This coffee reflects the care of a producer we have met, a place we have visited, and a lot that continues to stand out for its balance and character.
